11-18-2020 Update:  This class has been postponed. We are working on ways to provide a safer experience for examinees and volunteers - reduced class size, deliver training virtually, and more.  SDRMCA will be contacting all registered individuals directly with more information. 

Note:  Due to COVID, SDRMCA's traditional class format will be modified.  By registering, you are acknowledging that masks will be required in addition to traditional PPE.  6 ft spacings will be provided during classroom trainings and arrival times will be given for performance testing.  

Please do not attend if you have a mild cold like symptoms, a fever, have been exposed to someone with COVID, or if you are waiting on your own COVID test.

No food will be served during this event.  

The certification was designed by ACI to promote better understanding of the ASTM procedures related to testing and acceptance of plastic concrete. This understanding will provide more reliable and accurate test results for better measurement of concrete performance.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform and record the results of seven basic field tests on freshly mixed concrete: Upon successful completion of the program, participants will have an International Certification and better understanding of the following ASTM testing procedures:

ASTM C 1064: Temperature of Freshly Mixed Portland Cement Concrete

ASTM C 172: Sampling of Freshly Mixed Concrete

ASTM C 143: Slump of Hydraulic Cement Concrete

ASTM C 138: Unit Weight, Yield & Air Content (Gravametric) of Concrete

ASTM C 231: Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by Pressure Method

ASTM C 173: Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by Volumetric Method

ASTM C 31: Making & Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Field

Certification is valid for 5 years.

Day One:  8am-5pm, Classroom Review, (Lunch on own)  Ramkota Hotel

Day Two:  8am Review, 9am Written Exam - Ramkota, Performance Exam Immediately following.

You will be given a time to arrive for your Performance Exam (SDDOT Wash bay).  Plan to complete several tests at the same station.  Equipment will be sanitized between examinees.

SDDOT Plus Program (DOT Conf Room) will begin when all participants are completed.  This is a mandatory program for the DOT.

**Steel toe boots/shoes, gloves, mask and safety glasses required.
